CHC30221 Certificate III in School Based Education Support

Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of workers who assist teachers and support student learning in a range of classroom settings. They complete general administrative as well as operational tasks to support students with learning under the guidance of a teacher or other educational professional. Work requires use of discretion and judgement within the boundaries of established policies and procedures. Education support workers work mainly with students in classroom settings in primary or secondary schools, as defined by State/Territory legislation. To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 100 hours of work in a classroom environment catering to primary or secondary school students, within at least one school in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

Volume of learning is typically 1 – 2 years. There may be variations between shorter learning duration if specialist qualifications are being built on by this qualification or a longer duration when this qualification is an entry level requirements for work.

A Pre-Training Assessment is conducted with enrolment to determine the Foundation Skills of the learner in relation to the requirements of the course.

The practical element to this course will take students 100 hours. Students will need to provide documented evidence of work experience in a school based environment.

The Certificate III in School Based Education Support is studied as a 24 month part-time study load. The course will require students to independently study and submit their coursework via email.
Assessment information will be provided to you at the start of the course by your trainer and you must abide by the assessment requirements set by MW Training Consultants and your trainers. It may include written work, practical applications, projects and observation. Your coursework will be returned with feedback from your trainer. Please allow adequate time for the assessment process before making an enquiry on progress. All learners with MW Training Consultants are offered the opportunity for recognition of prior learning (RPL). If you believe that you have the pre-existing skills, knowledge and experience for all or part of this course, please contact our head office and request an RPL Guide. This will need to be filled out, with relevant documentation and returned to head office who will forward this on to your trainer for assessment.

The new standards for RTOs in 2025 require RTOs to pre-validate all assessment tools before they are used with students. This includes pre-enrolment assessments for existing skills, competencies, and language, literacy, numeracy (LLN), and digital literacy/capability. RTOs must ensure that these assessments are conducted at the pre-enrolment stage, providing students with all relevant information to make informed decisions about the suitability of the training product for them.
